Lips Like Morphine. The name suggests something dangerously sexy and after all, isnt that what rock & roll is? There is a certain danger and sexiness that draws us into rock & roll and to the rock stars that bring the music to life. The band name was inspired by a song about a kiss that is so overwhelming, it floors you like a drug. And with their intoxicating blend of alternative rock washed in 80s new wave, this four-piece from Las Vegas has been flooring fans all over the west coast!
In 2008, BadIdea Magazine discovered their talents and featured them on an August cover titled "the Next Killers?" With some big shoes to fill, Lips set out to meet this challenge steadfastly. A year later they had moved from a stuffy bedroom, to a windowless garage, to the center of spot-lit stages alongside of nationally signed acts like the English Beat, the Von Bondies, and Low vs. Diamond. They attribute much of their rising success to their ability to combine creativity with entrepreneurial savvy. Their most rewarding experiences thus far have been fully funded through creative alliances with photographers, musicians, clothing designers, producers, and radio personnel. One being their 2009 Midwest summer tour, which spanned from California to Missouri. Another being their recently debuted Sugarush EP, which is due to hit global distribution this November, and is already stirring up a buzz. As one critic put it, "Mrs. Heartbreak beats with the pulse of the Psychedelic Furs, and the chorus of Radio will stick to your synapses like stray gum clings to your shoe on a sweltering Vegas afternoon." - City Life Magazine... "their hooks are plentiful and should draw the attention of alt rock radio if they play their cards right." - St. Louis Post
This six song EP is fronted by the sultry voice of Charles Earland, whose delivery is honest, fiery, and always compelling. PJ Paradise (guitar and keys) adds lines that are characteristic of his native Hollywood stomping grounds... sharp like razors, and swollen with attitude. And the rhythm section features former Killers bassist Dell Star, who locks in perfectly with the Big Apple backbeat of Ahmad Earland. Combined, these indie-rockers make for a dynamic, high intensity rock sound that is "instantaneously danceable!" - St. Louis Post
Maybe its the bright neon lights, or maybe its the long desert nightsbut whatever it is, Las Vegas seems to have a knack for producing hot rock bands--and Lips Like Morphine is no exception. As Shannon Pierce from XRADIO.BIZ simply stated..."expect great things!"
